We raise registered Wensleydale % breeding stock with lovely fleeces. Wensleydale SheepOriginally from England, the Wensleydale did not exist in purebred form in the United States until 2007, when the first "purebred" lambs were born. Using A.I. (artificial insemination), the American "upgrade" program is in the process of "re-creating" the breed here in North America. To be considered purebred, sheep must be 96% Wensleydale or above.
For more information about Wensleydale sheep, see the North American
Wensleydale Sheep Breeders Association (NAWSA) website:
Scrapie ProgramJuniper Haven is enrolled in the Voluntary Scrapie Flock Certification
Program (VSFCP). This program is older—and more demanding—than the
"mandatory" system that all sheep producers must comply with. Enrolled
flocks must document all sheep, and record animals that join
or leave the flock. In addition there is a yearly inspection by a
federal veterinarian. | ||
